I like your story Lucas. Like you, I’m also in my late 30s at this point. I love the dazzle shorts. Had a great pair myself, they were black/blue, went down to my knees, they were really thick. Loved wearing those, probably my favorite piece of clothing ever. Was pretty sad when the elastic wore out and they broke down.
While I see some similarities between us there are a few differences. I really don’t care for wet shoes and socks for instance. I couldn’t get a good grasp of how your parents were, but from the time I was in 2nd grade until 8th grade I had a really strict stepdad. One of his many rules was that I wasn’t allowed to get my clothes wet or play in the rain. One time when I was in 7th grade my neighbor Johnny and his sister Sammantha came over. I was sitting on the porch because I liked watching it rain, and it was raining pretty hard for quite a while. They decided to play in the rain, diving in puddles on the lawn, running/riding bikes through pouring water coming off the downspout on the roof. At one point they even went back inside to change clothes, then came back out to get soaked all over again. They tried multiple times to convince me to join them. And even though at that point I still didn’t like getting my clothes wet due to a few other experiences I had when I was younger, I’m pretty sure they would have been able to talk me into it if that stepdad wasn’t present.
